According to a post on MTV U.K; The Libertines are planning to get back together. All we know at this point is that the boys are set to play both the Leeds and Reading festivals. The boys will received a payment of 1.5 Million pounds for both gigs(Whoa). Reports also claim that the band is considering writing new material and doing a few more dates in the near future. Only time will tell, but at this point it may just be a two gig run for these guys.Pete Doherty is currently making headlines for allegedly supplying Robin Whitehead drugs that lead to her death. Let’s hope all the drama clears up in time for this reunion.

Sweet Apples SWSW Adventures

23 Mar

Sweet Apple made their debut at SWSW, performing and practicing on stage for the first time(Woah). The big/funny story is what happen to them before their gig at Austin’s Waterloo Records. The band apparently got lost at a supermarket just before they were due to go on stage. This statement was released from the boys themselves :

“We were running late from one show to another and couldn’t find a parking spot,” says singer John Petkovic. “So J suggested we park in the Whole Foods across the street.”

“I have a Whole Foods gold card, I must’ve spent $10,000 in that place last year,” says Mascis. “Isn’t that worth a parking spot?”

A security guard wasn’t swayed. The band was told that parking spaces were reserved for customers only, not bands playing SXSW.

“So J suggested we go shopping,” says Sweetapple. “He could spend all day in that place.”

They did, with Mascis, Sweetapple and Tim Parnin carrying their guitars around the store.

“People kept asking us if we were performing a Whole Foods showcase,” says Sweetapple. “But we couldn’t find the stage.”

Crazy stuff gentleman, crazy stuff. On a side note, the band just debuted their second single on Prefix Mag. Love And Desperation comes out on April 20th.

Diplo Reveals A Few Things About M.I.A New Record

23 Mar

M.I.A is gearing for what could be one of the biggest years of her career. The Sri Lanken beauty just signed Sleigh Bells and announced a bunch of festival dates. MTV.ca posted a small interview they did with Diplo during SWSW, which reveals some of what’s going on behind the scenes of the new M.I.A project. According to Diplo, the record will most likely drop in July, as appose to it’s original June 2010 release. Diplo made this statement to MTV News :

“[The album] is cool. I think that she’s just wrapping up the mixing and stuff. I was in New York on Thursday, before I came here, I was mixing down the last single for it,” Dip explained. “It’s a record I did for her that’s sort of … you can’t even [explain] what it would sound like. It’s sort of like an Animal Collective/ gospel/ giant-drum record. And she’s singing on it. I think you might expect some rap/club music, but nothing on there. It’s more of a heavy record. All kinds of different sounds. We did, like, a punk thing. … It’s weird.”

The album is still untitled, but we do have a lot to look forward too from the sounds of it.

Dirtbag Debut : Bishop Morocco – Last Years Disco Guitars

23 Mar

Last Year’s Disco Guitars(via Hand Drawn Dracula)

Words can’t describe this band, they are fucking out of this world. The video is directed by a lovely Toronto native by the name of Eva Michon ( you may know her as one of the many brains behind Bad Day Magazine). For anyone who remembers their show at Narwhal Gallery for Bad Day, you’ll remember that they killed it and it was the best. Check out their myspace and see what you think!!!

Next Level : We Were Promised Jetpacks

23 Mar

Undoubtedly a banner year for fresh-faced music, Glasgow’s We Were Promised Jetpacks continue the 2010 legacy of awesome, bringing with them the enthusiasm, exuberance and energy reminiscent of early Arctic Monkeys.

Signed to Fat Cat records in 2008 after forming in Edinburgh in 2003, the alt-rock four-piece began encompassing all things buzz-worthy after their three-track demo scored serious radio play and went on to win KEXP’s “Best Track of the Day”– prior to being signed.  Eventually going on to tour with fellow Scots, (the increasingly popular) Frightened Rabbit, We Were Promised Jetpacks earned kudos for their stage presence and even more acclaim following the release of their debut album, These Four Walls, in June of 2009.

Currently coming off their North American tour, the band is back in the UK and plans to take Europe by storm as of April 15 when they’ll head to Germany and the Netherlands to undoubtedly increase their ever-growing fan base.  While they’ve only managed to make one Canadian appearance as of late, here’s hoping that as their star continues to rise, we’ll have more Jetpacks in our future.

New Indian Jewelry, Totalled

23 Mar

Indian Jewelry are ready to give us a new record and we couldn’t be any happier. We received word just before SWSW that the bands plans to drop their new record on May 11th via We Are Free. According to the press release we received; Totalled was written and recorded in 2009 and the songs were developed by Richard Durham, Mary Sharpe, and Rodney Rodriguez. The album is described as being “a crash course in sound and vision ; with the swamp electro sound of We Are The Wild Beast, the nightmare throb of Invasive Exotics, and the sonic angel dream of Free Gold”. That’s a lot to take in, so let’s just sit back and see how that’ll turn out. The band gives more details on their myspace.

(A favorite from their last record)
