Dirtbag Debut : The New Sins – The New Sins

29 Jul

New Young Pony Club’s Lou Hayter really knows how to tease her fans. Before their current LP, The Optimus started making waves there was talks that Lou would be starting a new side project called The New Sins. Since the end of 2008, we’ve seen her drop two singles ( It Doesn’t Work Like That (2008), and Feelings Have Changed (2009) ) with no details on a debut LP. Lou has just dropped another new single simply titled The New Sins. This song has been on her myspace for about a year, along with the other two songs. However, the word is that after NYPC is done touring for The Optimus record that Lou will complete her debut LP for The New Sins. Fingers crossed on that little bit of news.

New Jens Lekman, The End Of The World Is Bigger Than Love

29 Jul

Jens Lekman has had quite the eventful year. After contracting swine flu while on tour last June; the Australian based Swede took a break from touring to get better.Months of rumors about a new Jens Lekman album have definitely made die-hard Jens fans go crazy. But it looks like we don’t have to wait any longer because Jens is finally ready to deliver us some new material.

Drowned In Sound reports that on Secretly Canadian’s website there is a new song available for download titled, The End Of The World Is Bigger Than Love. Along with a new track, there is talk that Jens is currently in the studio working on the follow-up to 2007’s Night Falls Over Kortedala. No word on the record’d title or release date yet, but this is definitely very exciting news. Jens gives full details about this new song on Secretly Canadian’s website as well :

“It was the day before the american election 2008 and I was filled with a hopelessness that only a McCain supporter could have shared with me at the time. I was in Washington DC to perform for swedish TV, sitting in the couch with a professional smile on my face, joking with the hosts and discussing the lobster with the TV chef. I saw the clips online sometime ago, it’s amazing what an actor I can be if I really make an effort.

I lived in America back then, up in New York. At the time I felt like everything I touched was turning to shit and I had decided to put everything on one card. Subconsciously I knew I needed to hit the bottom so I could work my way up again. I needed confirmation, I needed someone to tell me it wasn’t going to work out, not this way. Yes, there was a girl involved in this. I was very much in love with her.

Some things you just go through. You don’t write about it, you don’t turn it into art because it can’t be turned into art. I didn’t write any songs that year because you can’t pour manure into an espresso machine and expect a cappuccino to come out. When they announced the results and the streets filled up with people celebrating I felt happy to be part of something bigger than myself. It was a feeling that lasted me until the very last days of December 2008 when I finally sat down in my old teenage room at my parents house and I wrote this song. Then the year ended.

It’s a song of hope. When love turns it’s back on you it’s nice to know there’s a world out there that doesn’t give a shit about your problems. That forces you to keep your head held high and move on. A world that is fragile and beautiful. Maybe it can sound cold to some of you, but let me make it clear that I believe in love, I just get so wrapped up in it sometimes that I need to put it into proportion. It’s something you have to do a lot when you’re Jens Lekman.”

Jens will be playing a few dates over the summer. The dates are below :

New Nite Jewel, Another Horizon

27 Jul

As we reported earlier this month; Nite Jewel has just dropped a new EP titled, Am I Real ? A new song of the EP called Another Horizon has surfaced on You Tube and let’s just say it might be one of Nite Jewel’s best songs yet. With precise drum, wavey dancefloor synth beats, and gorgeous vibrato; this song makes one believe that in a spooky, alternate universe, former Ariel Pink member/current Nite Jewel collaborator Cole M.Grief-Neill and SWV would have been good friends(Romana’s definitely got that sultry sound going on this track).

Am I Real ? will be available on vinyl on August 16th. Nite Jewel will be playing a few dates starting July 29th. The dates are below :

07/29 Los Angeles, CA Echoplex *
08/09 New York, NY Mercury Lounge #
08/10 Wilkes-Barre, PA Cafe Metropolis $
08/11 Allston, MA Great Scott %

New Trust, Bulbform

20 Jul

When we coined Toronto synth wave band, Trust as “Next Level” earlier this year; it was very early in their career and nothing was really set in stone. But guess what ? We were right and now this Toronto duo is showing the type of promise that equals long-term success and dance floor domination. It’s funny to think they haven’t been going for that long, but they’ve already made such a unique impact in the melting pot of talents in Toronto. They killed their first shows with Parallels and Washed Out, their NXNE performances with Glass Candy and Diamond Rings got them rave reviews, and now there are talks of a music video for their single, Candy Wallz. But for anyone who’s itching to hear some new Trust; you don’t have to wait any longer.

The band has just posted a new track on their myspace last week called Bulbform. One phrase sums up this track, deathly hot. Think of it this way; it’s your last day on earth and you want to go out to a party and toss your shit, this would be your track. This powerhouse single exemplifies what makes a dance tracks in non traditional, non top 40 circles so impactful, not to mention unforgettable. If Candy Wallz could be rivaled, this would be its greatest adversary. Go to their myspace and check it out!

Trust will be playing Unit C/102 Ossington in support of the Bishop Morocco album release party. The event will feature dj sets by Jaime Sin and Mikey Apples.

Dirtbag Debut : Neon Indian – 6669(I Don’t Know If You Know)

20 Jul

6669(via Pitchfork)

David Arquette will be joining Neve Campbell and friends for Scream 4 in 2011. You may want to tell David to call Neon Indian’s Alan Palomo and tell him that his visually stunning new clip for 6669 could be chillwave equivalent of the Eight Legged Freaks franchise next movie(if he’s at all interested). This single is another banger of 2009’s Psychic Chasms, which even after a full year of being released is still well respected and sending shockwaves through the music world. Believe it or not, this dude is the full package.

Neon Indian will be playing Lees Palace in Toronto, Ontario on October 12th, 2010
